“I came to Singapore in 2011 and after three years working in a private company, got to know my future husband there. He is my work colleague, and is a Singaporean. We were together for two years with thoughts of settling down. Unfortunately, rules dictate that we couldn’t do so as I am only a WP holder. I am very troubled because had this happened in my country, there wouldn’t be any restrictions. In Singapore, I would need clearance from Ministry of Manpower (MOM) before getting married to a Singaporean.
Step 1: First of all, go to this website
And download this application form in PDF format. Print and complete all the relevant information in English, all of it preferably in block letters. You might need to find a translator to help you fill in the details.
Step 2: What the applicant need to bring along:
- A copy of your passport
- Proof of employment from your company. It must state clearly your salary, date of employment, job position and the relevant company stamps.
- Educational certification
- Passport-sized photos
- Birth certs of your children, if any
- Proof of divorce, if you are a divorcee
- Proof of death cert, if you are a widow
Step 3: Arrange all the relevant documents, and scan it. Submit at www.mom.gov.sg – iSubmit
Fill in your details. Upload your relevant documents. It will take up to 4 working weeks to know your result.
